The cognates suggest the existence of Proto-Germanic *andaswarō (a reply to a question). Cognate with Old Frisian ondser (answer), Old Saxon andswōr (answer), Danish and Swedish ansvar (liability, responsibility, answer), Icelandic andsvar (answer, response).
